In 1979

Armed with nothing more than a sewing machine and her talent for creating elegant window treatments, Maria Makkas established Makkas Workroom, her beloved family business.

As the years passed and her clientele grew, so too did requests for more complicated projects, a shift which heralded the beginning of a professional collaboration with her husband, Phil Makkas. The combination of Maria’s expertise and eye for design and Phil's technical skills enabled the couple to transform even the most complex visions of Boston's most talented interior designers into reality.

The couple’s son Manny, who earned his MBA at Northeastern University, joined the company in 2009, ushering in a new dimension to the family’s thriving business and giving Makkas Workroom the ability to maintain continued and consistent leadership through the transition from one generation to the next. Together, the Makkas Family remains dedicated to providing clients with exceptional custom creations and the assurance that we will be alongside you, every step of the way.
